In 2010 Gail & Tom took Dreams Come True
Farm's 5 YO Friesian Tsjerk mare, Sjaantje,
who was in her 2nd year
of showing to several shows,
generally to compete in driving classes. This year those trips were
easier, as we now have a 4 horse head to head trailer, which allows us
to take both horse and carriage in the same vehicle. Our first 2010 public appearance with us as a team w/o professional trainer was at the Harrisburg PA Horse Expo February 25-28th where we participated daily in the Friesian Parade of Breeds demonstration, as an example of a driving Friesian. Sjaantje rose to the occasion putting on 4 spectacular driving sessions: 2 with Allentown's Paige Lilly starting her off before handing the reins to me, and 2 with me as whip-- I made my first solo public drive with her on February 27th! For our first 2010 show we traveled to Lexington, VA to the Bonnie Blue National Horse Show, which was held May 12-16, 2010 at the Virginia Horse Center, where we entered 2 Friesian pleasure driving classes and a "Ladies to Drive" exhibition class. We were out classed by seasoned driving horses, traveling with their professional trainers and their very experienced owners, but Sjaantje and I held our own, coming home with a first and 2 thirds. I know Thomas and I had more new experiences and fun than any other exhibitors there! Plus Sjaantje and I completed our very first show solo driving class. May 22, 2010 we took our Teade yearling, Fancee, and Sjaantje to the 1st Mid-Atlantic Friesian Horse Classic held at Frying Pan Park in Herndon, VA. Our girls did us proud, winning their halter classes, a driving class, the costume class, and a liberty class in addition to several seconds and a third; plus Sjaantje was Reserve Champion Halter Horse and Reserve Champion Driving Horse, as well as High Pont Horse and High Point Mare! June 16-19, 2010 we were at the Syracuse International Horse Show in NY, stabling with Sweigart Stables, where I rode in and won the 2 Friesian walk/trot classes and Brook drove Sjaantje in the 2 Friesian show driving classes, because I prefer driving in carriage pleasure driving classes, where I get to do my favorite gait: the "slow trot!" July 27 - 31, 2010 found us at the Blue Ridge Classic in Ashville, NC. Although it was a long 9 hour drive and a saddlebred show with a Friesian division, I was really looked forward to this one since my childhood best friend, Judy, and her husband, Rob, live nearby and we were able to visit. My friends go to see us in the show ring. Rob has an awesome camera and took gazzillions of photos! August 7-8 found us returning to the Ohio Valley Friesian Horse Classic in Columbus, OH at the Ohio State Fair. Once again Sjaantje won the mare halter class both days, and this year I drove Sjaantje in all her classes! We also took our Teade yearling, Fancee. Our final 2010 show was Dressage at Devon, where Sjaantje was shown in the Friesian Halter by Bruce & Staci Griffin of Griffin Sport Horses, Gretna, VA. The rainy, windy weather was horrid and a power loss after the Friesian class postponed the rest of the classes until the next day. Competition was very stiff with Iron Spring Farm's model mare, Toltsje fan't Boekehof, winning this class since 2008. Even with her airs above the ground, Sjaantje was placed above Toltsje, so that pretty pink ribbon is one of my favorites! |
