One day last summer Suzy
Stafford, our trainer, casually asked me if I had ever heard of
Walnut Hill. Of course I had heard of Walnut Hill: Is it not the most
famous carriage driving event in North America or perhaps the world? Who would have thought with that one question we would
embark on the most excellent week long adventure. Neither Suzy nor
Thomas & I
had been to Pittsford, NY for the Walnut Hill Carriage Competition, and
with Sjaantje hitched to Bobbi Jo's spindle back Gig, I knew we'd make
an impression. I drove in the Friday night Gig Turnout Class with the Flower City Orchestra playing in the background and before the largest audience I have ever seen at a horse show. Suzy showed in the "Other Than" division, where Sjaantje entered her first cross country obstacle course and first progressive cones course. Besides learning so much about this type of a driving show, for me the most memorable part of the whole week was participating in the Presentation Carriage Pleasure Drive, a 2.5 Mile drive from the show grounds to a park where local residents lined the road to tailgate and to cheer us on. I felt like a queen and had the time of my life. Enjoy these show photos taken by the show
