The largest crowd we have ever shown before: all 4 sides of the arena were packed with spectators.

We attended this event to give the 2005 KFPS/FHANA Dutch bred Friesian mare, Sjaantje Sport, something to do this month. Neither trainer, Suzy Stafford, nor myself had ever exhibited at Devon, and the venue was close to our barn. I was still not allowed to drive from my March 6th rotator cuff surgery, so asked Suzy to drive in the single horse division.  I was healthy enough to ride along in their pleasure drive or "marathon," as it is called and had an absolutely delightful experience. Nothing beats dressed to the nines, trotting briskly down the road in a carriage, and having us cheered on by enthusiastic spectators.
What fun we had socializing with the other competitors, who introduced me to jello shooters served in a 60mm syringe! Perfection.
Sjaantje definitely deserved the single horse championship, as there is no doubt in my mind that she was the best carriage pleasure driving horse there, so we will return, expecting to do even better and with an appropriate antique carriage: tentative date 2016.
